Recently the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issued Special Publication (SP) 800-44, Guidelines on Securing Public Web Servers written by Miles Tracy, Wayne Jansen, and Mark McLarnon for the purpose of helping agencies to improve the security, design, implementation, and operation of their web servers. Careful planning and implementation of the plan as well as continuous monitoring and updating of the systems used can increase the level of security.
